Michelle Ramsay is the winner of the
2008 Pauline McGibbon Award. The announcement was made tonight at the Dora Mavor Moore Awards in Toronto by Marg Rappolt, Deputy Minister of Culture. Michelle is currently on tour with Native Earth Performing Arts.
FACTS
- Michelle Ramsay is a lighting designer based in Toronto.
- Credits include work with independent and more established companies, such as: The Turtle Gals, Theatre Rusticle, Theatre Archipelago, Native Earth Performing Arts, nightswimming, The Grand London, Theatre Passe Muraille and Tarragon Theatre.
- Michelle has also worked with educational institutions such as George Brown Theatre School and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her professional development plans include master classes in lighting design and working with a more senior lighting designer on a larger project.
- Jury members included: Shawn Kerwin, set and costume designer, professor; Andrea Lundy, lighting designer; and, Allen MacInnis, artistic director.

- The Pauline McGibbon Award is presented to a member of Ontario’s professional theatre community in the early stages of his or her career who has displayed a unique talent and a potential for excellence. It was established in 1981 to honour former Lieutenant Governor Pauline McGibbon for her support and patronage of the arts. The award includes a $7,000 prize and a medal designed by Dora de Pedery Hunt. It is awarded annually on a three-year cycle to a director, production craftsperson and designer by the Ministry of Culture and is administered by the Ontario Arts Council.
