Chris MacLean wins the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award


The Ontario Arts Council is pleased to announce Chris MacLean is the 2008 recipient of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award for her song Feet Be Still.

FACTS

  • Chris MacLeans’ career spans 30 years, with numerous solo and group recordings.
    Chris is a member of the world music group Galitcha and has toured worldwide with the group for the past 7 years.
  • She is featured on Galitcha’s two recordings, Satrang (2002) and Blé d’Inde Celebration (2006).
  • Chris is also part of Frida's Brow, a folk music trio which includes Jennifer Noxon and Alise Marlane. In December 2007 the trio released a full-length, self-titled disc featuring 2 original songs penned by MacLean (www.myspace.com/fridasbrow).
  • Chris is preparing a new recording to be released early in 2009. She is based just outside Ottawa.
  • The Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award will be presented during the Ontario Council of Folk Festival’s annual conference at a gala dinner on Saturday, October 25, 2008 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ottawa.

    • The annual $1000 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award supports and promotes the work of Ontario-resident emerging singer-songwriters in the genres of roots, traditional, folk and country music. It was established at the Ontario Arts Council in 2003 by Colleen’s sister, Shirley Richardson, and singer-songwriter Laura Bird. The Ontario Arts Council administers The Colleen Peterson Songwriting Fund and the selection process.
    • Previous winners of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award include Brooke Miller (2007), Andy Sheppard (2006), Lori Cullen and Brian MacMillan (2005), David Gillis (2004), and evalyn parry (2003).
