National Film Board And OAC Launch Mentorship Program For Ontario’s Francophone Filmmakers

The National Film Board of Canada’s (NFB), Ontario and West Studio and the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) are joining forces to launch a mentorship program for Ontario-based francophone filmmakers.

The mentorship program will fund four to six francophone filmmakers as they shadow a mentor in their profession (including production; pre-production and post-production) providing career development guidance from an experienced professional.

“We are delighted that the NFB is able to partner with us in support of emerging French-speaking media artists,” said John Brotman, OAC Executive Director.  “Providing this unique opportunity for mentorship with some of Canada’s most established filmmakers is part of a larger OAC strategy.  This builds on last year’s launch of OAC’s Avance médias program to fund development and production of new media works.  ”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the NFB to partner with OAC on a project that dovetails so perfectly with our own mandate to contribute to the development of francophone filmmakers,” said Claudette Jaiko, Executive Producer, Studio Ontario et Ouest, French Program. “The NFB has a mandate to reflect the realities of various communities through its productions, and to support the individual voices and stories of filmmakers by enhancing their profile in the Canadian film milieu.”
