Ontario Arts Council Appoints Visual and Media Arts Officer

Toronto, January 26, 2000 - Cindy Richmond has been selected as the new Visual and Media Arts Officer at the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). The independent curator and arts consultant will join OAC on March 1, 2000.

"Cindy has a national reputation as a curator and comes to us with broad experience in arts administration," said John Brotman, Director of Arts Programs. " On top of that, the exhibitions she has curated show an appreciation and an understanding of a wide range of artistic styles."

Cindy was Head Curator at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina from 1988 to 1995. Since then she has worked as an independent curator and arts consultant. Over the years she has organized more than 30 exhibitions and written more than 30 catalogues. Her work has given her a broad overview of the work of Canadian contemporary artists. While at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Cindy programmed film series and other media arts events. In addition to her work as a curator, she has written about art for the Globe and Mail, C and other publications.

The position of Visual Arts Officer was recently merged with that of Media Arts Officer. There are also Associate Officer positions that support this large and diverse arts sector.
