Ontario Arts Council To Increase Grants with Administrative Savings

Toronto, February 25, 2000 - Donna Scott, O.C., CEO, is proud to announce that the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) has reduced its administrative expenses by 25% or almost $1.4 million from last year's budget allocation. These savings will allow the Council to enrich its granting budgets, which have not been increased over the past three years.

"One of my goals has been to see as many dollars as possible go directly into supporting the work of artists," said Donna Scott. "I am happy that OAC has taken the first step towards accomplishing this goal."

These savings also allow the OAC to absorb the 1% reduction or $250,000 in its government allocation that was announced for the 2000/2001 fiscal year while enabling the OAC to enrich the granting envelopes. They also create the opportunity for an increase in OAC's support to touring in Ontario by OAC funded performing arts companies.

Details of the new funding will be communicated after the OAC's Board meeting at the end of March.
