Ontario Arts Council Creates New Program for Crafts Organizations

Toronto, February 3, 1999 — The Ontario Arts Council (OAC) today announced details of its new project program for crafts organizations. The program will support a wide range of projects by professional crafts organizations in Ontario.

OAC hopes that the new program will help crafts organizations undertake initiatives that enhance public awareness of professional crafts and increase marketing opportunities for craft organizations.

"Although we have always provided annual funding for organizations, this is the first time we have had a program dedicated to crafts organizations that want to pursue a specific project," said Anne-Marie Bénéteau, Acting Visual Arts and Crafts Officer.

Only Ontario-based, not-for-profit crafts organizations, guilds, galleries or collectives that do not already receive annual funding are eligible.

There is only one deadline per year for this program, April 1, 1999. Applicants may request up to $10,000 but the size of the grant will depend upon the merit and scope of the project, the number of applications, and OAC’s budget.

Visual Arts and Crafts at OAC supports programs for visual artists, craftspeople, artist-run centres in media and visual arts, public art galleries, crafts organizations, and exhibition assistance for artists, craftspeople, designers or photographers.
